Hawai‘i Island police are investigating a Kona vehicle fire that occurred in the early morning hours of Sunday, January 21, 2024.

Around 4:38 a.m., Kona patrol officers responded to the 77-6400 block of Leialoha Street in Kailua-Kona for a report of a vehicle fire. Upon arrival, officers observed an older model pick-up truck engulfed in flames with the fire was rapidly growing closer to the residence.

Thanks to the quick response of the Hawai‘i Fire Department, the fire was extinguished at about 5:00 a.m. preventing damage to the structure. No one was injured as a result of the fire; however, one vehicle was rendered inoperable, with the damages estimated at $6,000. Per the Hawai‘i Fire Department, the cause of the fire has not been determined.
