During the week of April 8, 2024, through April 14, 2024, Hawai`i Island police arrested sixteen (16) motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant.  Seven of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident.  One driver was under the age of 21.  

So far this year, there have been 267 DUI arrests compared with 288 during the same period last year. This is a decrease of 7.3 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

Hawaii Police Department’s Traffic Services Section reviewed all updated crashes and found 289 major crashes so far this year, compared with 275 during the same time last year.  This represents an increase of 5.1 percent.

To date, there were 12 fatal crashes, resulting in 14 fatalities (two of which had multiple deaths), compared with 6 fatal crashes, resulting in 7 fatalities (one of which had multiple deaths, and one died at a later date) for the same time last year. This represents an increase of 100 percent for fatal crashes and 100 percent for fatalities.

To date, the non-traffic fatality count so far this year is 0 compared to 0 non-traffic fatalities (not on a public roadway) for the same time last year. 

DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
