During the week of April 15, 2024, through April 21, 2024, Hawai`i Island police arrested twenty-five (25) motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Nine of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. One driver was under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 291 DUI arrests compared with 309 during the same period last year. This is a decrease of 5.8 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

Hawaii Police Department’s Traffic Services Section reviewed all updated crashes and found 304 major crashes so far this year, compared with 286 during the same time last year. This represents an increase of 6.3 percent.
To date, there were 13 fatal crashes, resulting in 15 fatalities (two of which had multiple deaths), compared with 7 fatal crashes, resulting in 8 fatalities (one of which had multiple deaths, and one died at a later date) for the same time last year. This represents an increase of 85.7 percent for fatal crashes and 87.5 percent for fatalities.
To date, the non-traffic fatality count so far this year is 0 compared to 0 non-traffic fatalities (not on a public roadway) for the same time last year.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
