The McGruff Crime Dog at Keonepoko Elementary School
On June 1, 2006, Big Island police provided the students at Keonepoko Elementary School with a demonstration that included officers rappelling from a helicopter onto a simulated marijuana patch and apprehending a "suspect." The McGruff Crime Dog assisted in the mock arrest, which was conducted by Community Police Officers and Vice Section officers.
Police also displayed and demonstrated the Mobile Clandestine Lab and police drug dog. To cap off the activities, deejay Chad provided music that got most of the students dancing in the playground.
The purpose of the demonstration was to recognize Keonepoko's students and staff for allowing the Community Police and School Resource Officers to provide an anti-gang, anti-violence and drug awareness workshop earlier in the school year and for maintaining a positive environment that included reduction in gang activity on campus.
