Big Island police have secured a warrant of arrest for a 48-year-old Oahu man in connection with an attempted murder investigation. Police are looking for Fred Silva III who was visiting family on the island at the time of the incident.

On Sunday morning (November 25) Puna officers and medics were summoned to Kaleponi Drive in the Fern Forest subdivision of upper Puna by a friend of the victim who found him crawling on the roadway looking for help. The victim was transported to Hilo Medical Center with multiple injuries about his head and body. He was conscious and was able to give police details of the attack, including a partial identity of the attacker, as he was familiar with him.

The victim related being awakened sometime Saturday evening or early Sunday morning by the suspect, who entered his home and began beating him with a rubber mallet and a baseball bat.  The victim fell unconscious and awoke Sunday morning with the suspect gone from the area. 

The victim sustained numerous broken bones and internal injuries as a result of the beating. He remains at Hilo Medical Center in stable condition.        

Silva was recently released from the Department of Public Safety after serving a 20-year term for a 1986 manslaughter conviction on Oahu.

Police ask anyone with information on his whereabouts to call police at  935-3311.
