Hawaii County Police are investigating an incident that resulted in the hospitalization of a 20-year-old man.

On Saturday (July 26) at 7:17 p.m., South Hilo Patrol Officers responded to Hilo Medical Center in response to a call received from hospital personnel reporting that a 20-year-old man had been transported to the Emergency Room for treatment of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle-pedestrian accident. The accident occurred on Indian Tree Road in Pepeekeo Agriculture Lots located south of Route 19 (Hawaii Belt Road).

Initial information provided by the operator of the responsible vehicle was that the victim was struck by a farm truck, which was in the process of hauling produce to a processing area.

The victim was transported to Hilo Medical Center via private vehicle after he collapsed on the roadway with numerous injuries to his head and body. He is listed in critical condition.

Police are classifying this case as a Negligent Injury. The Traffic Enforcement Unit section is assisting with the investigation
