Chief Lawrence K. Mahuna has promoted nine Big Island police officers from the rank of sergeant/detective to lieutenant, effective July 1.

The new lieutenants have been assigned to the following sections:

Lieutenant Jeremie C.O. Evangelista - Kona Patrol

Lieutenant Gilbert Gaspar - Kona Patrol

Lieutenant Darren Horio - Kona Patrol

Lieutenant Samuel Kawamoto - Special Response Team

Lieutenant Richard Sherlock - Vice Section, Area I

Lieutenant Burt Shimabukuro - South Hilo Patrol

Lieutenant Harold L. Sumaoang - Kona Patrol

Lieutenant Aimee Wana - Communications Section
