A 56-year-old Arizona man is in police custody in connection with at attempted robbery Wednesday (October 14) along Ali'i Drive in Kailua-Kona.

An 18-year-old woman reported that she was walking by the rock wall of Hale O Kane Park at 8:45 p.m. when a man began speaking to her, followed her and told her he was going to rob her. As the woman tried to run away, the man knocked her down and she screamed. The screams attracted passersby and the suspect fled the scene without taking anything.

The woman was not injured.

Police investigation led to the arrest Thursday afternoon (October 15) of Emil Delao of Tucson, Arizona, at the Kona airport, where he was waiting to catch a scheduled flight to the mainland.

Delao is being held at the Kona police cellblock pending charges while detectives from the Area II Criminal Investigations Section continue the investigation.
