Hilo police have initiated a murder investigation into the discovery of a man's body yesterday afternoon (September 9) in the Onomea area. Condition of the body led investigators to believe that foul play may have caused his death.

Police have identified the victim but are not releasing his name pending notification of next of kin.

Investigators would like to speak with the anonymous individual who called Crime Stoppers to report hearing gunshots fired in that area.

An autopsy has been scheduled for Friday morning to determine the exact cause of death.
