During the week of January 3-9, 2005, Big Island police arrested 10 motorists for drunk driving. Two of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes and two were under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 20 DUI arrests, compared to 25 during the same period last year, a decrease of 20 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 59 major accidents so far this year, compared to 65 during the same period last year, a decrease of 9 percent.
There have been no traffic fatalities on the Big Island so far this year, compared to none for the same period last year.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will be continued on an islandwide basis.
