During the week of February 14-February 20, 2006, Big Island police arrested twenty-two motorists for drunk driving. Three of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes, and three were under the age of 21.
So far this year, there has been a total of 134 DUI arrests, compared to a revised total of 103 during the same period last year, an increase of 30 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There has been a revised total of 324 major accidents so far this year, compared to a revised total of 317 during the same period last year, an increase of 2 percent.
There have been seven traffic fatalities on the Big Island so far this year, compared to six for the same period last year, an increase of 17 percent.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will be continued islandwide.
