During the week of February 21-27, 2005, Big Island police arrested 13 motorists for drunk driving. One of the drivers was involved in a traffic collision and two were under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 99 DUI arrests, compared to 146 during the same period last year, a decrease of 32 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 269 major accidents so far this year, compared to 353 during the same period last year, a decrease of 24 percent.
There have been eight traffic fatalities on the Big Island so far this year, compared to seven for the same period last year, an increase of 14 percent. There have been no alcohol-related fatalities so far this year, compared to three at this time last year, a decrease of 100 percent. There have been no drug-related fatalities so far this year, compared to two at the same time last year, a decrease of 100 percent.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will be continued on an islandwide basis.
