During the week of February 28-March 6, 2006, Big Island police arrested thirty-one motorists for drunk driving. Seven of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes, and eight were under the age of 21.
So far this year, there has been a total of 191 DUI arrests, compared to a revised total of 154 during the same period last year, an increase of 24 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There has been a revised total of 436 major accidents so far this year, compared to a revised total of 418 during the same period last year, an increase of 2 percent.
There has been a total of seven traffic fatalities on the Big Island so far this year, compared to nine for the same period last year, a decrease of 25 percent.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will be continued islandwide.
