During the week of March 7-March 13, 2006, Big Island police arrested twenty-one motorists for drunk driving. Four of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes, and two were under the age of 21.
So far this year, there has been a total of 212 DUI arrests, compared to a revised total of 172 during the same period last year, an increase of 23 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There has been a revised total of 506 major accidents so far this year, compared to a revised total of 493 during the same period last year, an increase of 3 percent.
There has been a total of eight traffic fatalities on the Big Island so far this year, compared to ten for the same period last year, a decrease of 20 percent.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will be continued islandwide.
