During the week of March 21-March 27, 2006, Big Island police arrested twenty-five motorists for drunk driving. Five of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes, and four were under the age of 21.
So far this year, there has been a total of 267 DUI arrests, compared to a revised total of 227 during the same period last year, an increase of 18 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There has been a revised total of 613 major accidents so far this year, compared to a revised total of 570 during the same period last year, an increase of 8 percent.
There has been a total of eleven traffic fatalities on the Big Island so far this year, compared to eleven for the same period last year.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will be continued islandwide.
