During the week of April 4-10, 2005, Big Island police arrested 11 motorists for drunk driving.
So far this year, there have been 201 DUI arrests, compared to 272 during the same period last year, a decrease of 26 percent. The number of arrests by district were:

There have been 489 major accidents so far this year, compared to 682 during the same period last year, a decrease of 28 percent.
There have been 11 traffic fatalities on the Big Island so far this year, compared to 17 for the same period last year, a decrease of 35 percent. There have been no alcohol-related fatalities so far this year, compared to five at this time last year, a decrease of 100 percent. There have been no drug-related fatalities so far this year, compared to six at the same time last year, a decrease of 100 percent.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will be continued on an islandwide basis.
