During the week of April 25-May 1, 2005, Big Island police arrested 10 motorists for drunk driving. One of the drivers was involved in a traffic crash, and one was under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 244 DUI arrests, compared to 344 during the same period last year, a decrease of 27 percent. The number of arrests by district were:

There have been 564 major accidents so far this year, compared to 821 during the same period last year, a decrease of 31 percent.
There have been 15 traffic fatalities on the Big Island so far this year, compared to 17 for the same period last year, a decrease of 12 percent. There has been one alcohol-related fatality so far this year, compared to five at this time last year, a decrease of 80 percent. There have been no drug-related fatalities so far this year, compared to six at the same time last year, a decrease of 100 percent.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will be continued on an islandwide basis.
