During the week of July 11-17, 2005, Big Island police arrested 13 motorists for drunk driving.
So far this year, there have been 555 DUI arrests, compared to 569 during the same period last year, a decrease of 2 percent. The number of arrests by district were:

There have been 1,288 major accidents so far this year, compared to 1,317 during the same period last year, a decrease of 2 percent.
There have been 18 traffic fatalities on the Big Island so far this year, compared to 24 for the same period last year, a decrease of 25 percent. There have been 12 alcohol-related fatalities so far this year, compared to seven at this time last year, an increase of 71 percent. There have been nine drug-related fatalities so far this year, compared to 11 at the same time last year, a decrease of 18 percent.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will be continued on an islandwide basis.
