During the week of September 12-19, 2005, Big Island police arrested 8 motorists for drunk driving. Three of the drivers was involved in traffic crashes.
So far this year, there has been a revised total of 750 DUI arrests, compared to 751 during the same period last year, a decrease of 0.1 percent. The number of arrests by district were:

There have been 1,714 major accidents so far this year, compared to 1,744 during the same period last year, a decrease of 2 percent.
There have been 28 traffic fatalities on the Big Island so far this year, compared to 29 for the same period last year, a decrease of 3 percent. There have been 13 alcohol-related fatalities so far this year, compared to eight at this time last year, an increase of 63 percent. There have been nine drug-related fatalities so far this year, compared to 11 at the same time last year, a decrease of 18 percent.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will be continued on an islandwide basis.
