During the week of January 31, 2011, through February 6, 2011, Big Island police arrested 25 motorists for drunk driving. Three of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes.
So far this year, there have been 138 DUI arrests compared with 179 during the same period last year, a decrease of 22.9 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 127 major accidents so far this year compared with 133 during the same period last year, a decrease of of 4.5 percent.
So far this year, there were four traffic fatalities on the Big Island compared with five fatalities during the same period last year, a decrease of 20 percent.
So far, the four fatalities this year were not related to drugs only (0), alcohol only (0) or a combination of both (0 of the 4).
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
