During the week of February 6, 2007 – February 12, 2007, Big Island police arrested 30 motorists for drunk driving. Eleven of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes and four were under the age of 21.
There have been 150 DUI arrests so far this year compared with 107 at this time last year, an increase of 40 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There were 255 major accidents so far this year compared with 286 during the same period last year, a decrease of 11 percent.
There were have been five traffic fatalities on the Big Island so far this year compared with five during the same period last year.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
