During the week of April 8, 2008, through April 14, 2008, Big Island police arrested 22 motorists for drunk driving. Two of the drivers were involved in a traffic crash. Two were under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 398 DUI arrests compared with 376 during the same period last year, an increase of 6 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 544 major accidents so far this year compared with 625 during the same period last year, a decrease of 13 percent.
So far this year, there have been 11 traffic fatalities on the Big Island compared with 12 during the same period last year, a decrease of 8 percent.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
