During the week of April 11-April 17, 2006, Big Island police arrested 14 motorists for drunk driving. Five of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes, and three were under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 335 DUI arrests, compared with 273 during the same period last year, an increase of 23 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There has been a revised total of 751 major accidents so far this year, compared with 729 during the same period last year, an increase of 3 percent.
There has been a total of 12 traffic fatalities on the Big Island so far this year, compared with 12 for the same period last year, an increaase of 18 percent.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide.
