During the week of July 3, 2007, through July 9, 2007, Big Island police arrested 28 motorists for drunk driving. Twelve of the drivers were involved in a traffic crash. One of the drivers was under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 692 DUI arrests compared with 625 during the same period last year, an increase of 11 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 1,095 major accidents so far this year compared with 1,324 during the same period last year, a decrease of 17 percent.
So far this year, there have been 18 traffic fatalities on the Big Island compared with 18 during the same period last year.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
