During the week of July 31, 2007, through August 6, 2007, Big Island police arrested 18 motorists for drunk driving. Seven of the drivers were involved in a traffic crash. Two of the drivers were under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 766 DUI arrests compared with 724 during the same period last year, an increase of 6 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 1,255 major accidents so far this year compared with 1,523 during the same period last year, a decrease of 18 percent.
So far this year, there have been 21 traffic fatalities on the Big Island compared with 20 during the same period last year, an increase of 5 percent.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
