During the week of August 16, 2010, through August 22, 2010, Big Island police arrested 27 motorists for drunk driving. Seven of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. Three were under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 983 DUI arrests compared with 885 during the same period last year, an increase of 11.1 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 864 major accidents so far this year compared with 1,027 during the same period last year, a decrease of 15.9 percent.
So far this year, there were 20 traffic fatalities on the Big Island compared with 13 during the same period last year, an increase of 53.8 percent.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
