During the week of August 21, 2007, through August 27, 2007, Big Island police arrested 28 motorists for drunk driving. Seven of the drivers were involved in a traffic crash. Three were under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 851 DUI arrests compared with 816 during the same period last year, an increase of 4 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 1,375 major accidents so far this year compared with 1,683 during the same period last year, a decrease of 18 percent.
So far this year, there have been 23 traffic fatalities on the Big Island compared with 25 during the same period last year, an decrease of 8 percent.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
