During the week of August 28, 2007, through September 3, 2007, Big Island police arrested 30 motorists for drunk driving. Seven of the drivers were involved in a traffic crash. Six were under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 881 DUI arrests compared with 841 during the same period last year, an increase of 5 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 1,419 major accidents so far this year compared with 1,731 during the same period last year, a decrease of 18 percent.
So far this year, there have been 26 traffic fatalities on the Big Island compared with 26 during the same period last year.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
