During the week of September 18, 2007, through September 24, 2007, Big Island police arrested 20 motorists for drunk driving. Two of the drivers were involved in a traffic crash. Two were under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 966 DUI arrests compared with 918 during the same period last year, an increase of 5 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 1,536 major accidents so far this year compared with 1,849 during the same period last year, a decrease of 17 percent.
So far this year, there have been 29 traffic fatalities on the Big Island compared with 27 during the same period last year, an increase of 7 percent.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
