During the week of October 3, 2006 – October 9, 2006, Big Island police arrested 24 motorists for drunk driving. Four of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes and three were under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been a total of 953 DUI arrests compared with a revised total of 758 during the same period last year, an increase of 26 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been a revised total of 1,935 major accidents so far this year compared with a total of 1,852 during the same period last year, an increase of 4 percent.
There have been a total of 28 traffic fatalities on the Big Island so far this year compared with 29 for the same period last year, a decrease of 3 percent.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
