During the week of October 16, 2007, through October 22, 2007, Big Island police arrested 28 motorists for drunk driving. Five of the drivers were involved in a traffic crash.
So far this year, there have been 1,063 DUI arrests compared with 1,006 during the same period last year, an increase of 6 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 1,698 major accidents so far this year compared with 2,014 during the same period last year, a decrease of 16 percent.
So far this year, there have been 32 traffic fatalities on the Big Island compared with 29 during the same period last year, an increase of 10 percent.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
