During the week of October 30, 2007, through November 5, 2007, Big Island police arrested 38 motorists for drunk driving. Nine of the drivers were involved in a traffic crash. One was under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 1,128 DUI arrests compared with 1,056 during the same period last year, an increase of 7 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 1,776 major accidents so far this year compared with 2,096 during the same period last year, a decrease of 15 percent.
So far this year, there have been 34 traffic fatalities on the Big Island compared with 30 during the same period last year, an increase of 13 percent.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
