During the week of November 11, 2008, through November 17, 2008, Big Island police arrested 25 motorists for drunk driving. Eight of the drivers were involved in a traffic crash. Eight were under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 1,206 DUI arrests compared with 1,193 during the same period last year, an increase of 1.1 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 1,528 major accidents so far this year compared with 1,861 during the same period last year, a decrease of 18 percent.
So far this year, there have been 24 traffic fatalities on the Big Island compared with 35 during the same period last year, a decrease of 31 percent.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
