During the week of November 28,2006 – December 4, 2006, Big Island police arrested 28 motorists for drunk driving. Five of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes and three were under the age of 21.
So far this year, there have been 1,143 DUI arrests compared with 926 during the same period last year, an increase of 23 percent. The numbers of arrests by district were:

There have been 2,282 major accidents so far this year compared with 2,231 during the same period last year, an increase of 2 percent.
There have been 32 traffic fatalities on the Big Island so far this year compared with 32 for the same period last year.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue island wide.
