Kona Criminal Investigation Section detectives have charged a 25-year-old El Paso, Texas, man with two counts of sexual assault.
The suspect, John P. Quiroz, was charged about 11 p.m. Monday (July 19, 1999) after he had been arrested at 9:35 a.m. that morning. He is being held at the Hawaii Community Correctional Center in Hilo in lieu of a total bail of $20,000.
Police investigators determined that an adult female from El Paso, Texas, was sexually assaulted Sunday night at a Kailua-Kona hotel.
The victim was taken to the Kona Community Hospital, where she was found to have no other injuries aside from the sexual assault.
